The Importance of Travel
Of course, there are obvious benefits to travel such as improving your communication, learning about other cultures and trying new foods these are the obvious ones this is that everyone thinks about when it comes to travel.
I would like to add though that travel goes far beyond this. When you travel you remove yourself from the daily routine that is your life, routine is good but It’s nice to completely obliterate it once in a while and think about your life from a distance if you consider yourself happy with the way things are you’ll have more confidence going back to it. However, if you consider yourself unhappy travel gives you an excellent opportunity to reevaluate what you pursuing in life. This is the best and most important reason to travel at least once a year but to achieve that you must actually go! So step 1. Overcome travel anxiety.
Fears Associated with Travel
The top fear causing travel anxiety is affordability. Social media and YouTube promote expensive travel. Many influencers are paid for glamorous trips to Bali and Dubai. These trips are unaffordable for most people. However, travel doesn’t have to be expensive. Roundtrip flights to the Bahamas start at $537 from Seattle. Cheaper places like Mexico are even less expensive. Airbnb can provide good deals if booked in advance for over a week. Hostels are an option for the budget-conscious but may be a hurdle for some.
It’s not safe
It may be a shock to most people, but the United States is far from being the safest country in the world. In fact, it is ranked #129 on the list of safest countries (according to https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/safest-countries-in-the-world). There are 128 other countries that are considered safer than the United States and it is learned through travel that most people in the world are at least decent.
Preparation
Over-preparation
Now that the fears are out in the open, let’s start preparing for the trip. It’s important to be aware of over-preparation – the tendency to try too hard to be ready for a trip, causing anxiety about being underprepared. The truth is, you will never be fully prepared. While it’s important to prepare for challenges your location might present, once your boarding group is called at the airport, there is no going back. Taking a leap of faith is necessary, but don’t worry, it gets easier with more travelling experience.
Planning Your Itinerary
When travelling you need at least some sort of itinerary if I am just on a vacation I’ll plan the whole 1 or 2 weeks out where I am staying where, and where I want to eat. Lots of organization. That’s vacationing “travelling” is a little different. I usually only do the bare minimum I have a rough idea of what I want to do usually the first few days are planned. However, after that, I give myself the freedom to go where I want and where I want to do at that moment. The best travelling experiences that I have experienced are almost always on-the-moment decisions, not something that’s been planned out for months.
Packing Essentials
Having a general idea of where you are going is ideal when it comes to packing essentials. I often don’t stay in one country for my whole travelling experience but in a region so learn what kind of weather your region will have while you’re there to base your clothing choice off of. Besides clothing bring the usual things toothpaste and toiletries, you don’t need to buy a 5lb bag like a lot of affiliate sites might recommend. Remember KISS Keep It Simple Sweet.
Mindset
Facing your fears
Similar to my packing list the same principle goes KISS Keep it Simple Sweet. If it’s your first time travelling, I obviously don’t recommend going to Venezuela on your first trip but if you’re going to what would be considered an “average” place. It’s just another place where people go to work and live their lives all eyes are not on you your just another person on the sidewalk.
Embrace the Unknown
All the research and preparation that you might have done will not make things completely known nothing will beat the real deal of stepping foot out of the airport in a foreign country. Once you create this mindset where you just accept and embrace then learn from new experiences you be infinitely more confident in your travel experience and just your confidence in yourself.
Cultivating a positive attitude
The best attitude to have when travelling is an “It is what it is” attitude things often do not go right when travelling delayed planes, and trains, mix up at accommodations anything can happen. It’s best just to roll with it this is especially true in Latin America where the general public attitude is everything happens for a reason.
